Houghton International, the global leader in metalworking fluids and services, has developed a new versatile soluble oil metal removal fluid for multi-metal machining and grinding applications.
HOCUT® 8640 is a state-of-the-art innovation that will significantly improve machining and grinding operations. Houghton conducted extensive field testing which proved performance on a broad range of metals including high and low carbon steel, stainless and alloyed steel, cast nodular and gray iron, wrought and cast aluminum, powdered metal and carbon particle composites.
Designed to improve customers' operational efficiency, part quality and surface finish, HOCUT 8640, with built-in detergency, runs clean and provides excellent wetting which reduces consumption due to drag out, lowering fluid costs.
HOCUT 8640 has superior dispersibility improving chip removal thereby minimizing downtime. It has excellent emulsion stability and low foaming characteristics resulting in consistent lubrication and heat transfer performance. And HOCUT 8640 is biostable, a hallmark of Houghton expertise, so it extends sump life and eliminates the need for costly sump-side additives.
"Since switching to the new Houghton coolant, our shop has realized many benefits including less product usage, as operators report having less weekly makeup," said Pete Shufelt of Backerworks in Albuquerque, NM. "The product also runs very clean, so windows and machine surfaces are not left with the sticky film we have seen with other brands. Tool life is also great across all alloys we machine. Overall, we are very happy with Houghton's new product and we are converting our entire shop."
