Inverted Turning Centers Feature Twin Turret Configurations for Simultaneous Cutting

The FAMAR Group's ERGO series consists of single-spindle inverted vertical turning centers designed for geometric flexibility, with models ranging from the compact ERGO 200 up to the heavy-duty ERGO 1250.

These machines accommodate maximum swing diameters between 200mm and 1320mm. Mechanically, the series utilizes an inverted spindle configuration where the main spindle moves along the linear axes to pick up raw workpieces directly, eliminating the need for external robotic loading arms during standard part transfers.

While every machine includes a standard 12-station tool turret, the platform is engineered to support multiple secondary processes within the same footprint. For example, the Z-Type variant incorporates a B-axis milling spindle with an automatic tool changer, whereas the G-Type variant adds internal and external grinding attachments.

For high-volume manufacturing environments, the 2T-Type features a twin-turret layout to execute simultaneous cuts, and the Y-Type integrates a mechanical Y-axis to handle off-center milling and drilling operations. In-process gaging and tailstock integrations are also available to stabilize long shafts and maintain micron-level machining tolerances.

To support operations across North America, the manufacturer established FAMAR America in Charlotte, North Carolina. This regional branch works alongside a network of regional machine tool dealers to manage field service, engineering consults, and component logistics. This decentralized distribution model provides field support and direct factory assistance for both individual turning centers and automated production cells that incorporate the company's multi-spindle horizontal machining units.
