Hypertherm's New FlushCut Consumables Deliver Clean Attachment Removal Without Base Damage

Removing heavy-duty attachments like lifting lugs, pad eyes, and alignment fixtures has historically relied on oxyfuel torches or carbon arc gouging. These traditional methods are notorious for consuming excessive hours and leaving behind scarred base metals that require extensive manual grinding.

The introduction of Hypertherm Associates' MAXPRO200 FlushCut consumables changes this dynamic for heavy industries like shipbuilding, mining, and structural steel fabrication. This liquid-cooled plasma technology allows operators to slice through mild steel attachments up to 64 mm (2.5 inches) thick, directly flush with the base material.

The primary operational advantage is speed, completing jobs up to 90% faster than oxyfuel processing. By minimizing excess material left behind, the system also reduces secondary grinding work by up to 40%.

Beyond raw productivity metrics, the system directly targets workplace safety and labor constraints. Traditional gouging generates intense noise, heavy fumes, and extreme physical fatigue. The FlushCut setup uses an intuitive drag-cutting design, allowing the torch to rest directly on the workpiece. This ergonomics shift reduces operator strain and simplifies the training process for less experienced workers.

The consumables integrate across diverse hardware setups, including handheld torches, mechanized tractors, X-Y tables, and robotic cells. This adaptability ensures that facilities can deploy the technology exactly where bottlenecks occur. Ultimately, the system transforms a traditionally slow, hazardous maintenance chore into a fast, predictable manufacturing step.
