The objective of the event was to bring together teams from around the world to collaborate and innovate using AI.
The Inaugural AI Hackathon, presented by Sandvik in October, brought together 42 teams and 183 participants spanning six locations and five international time zones. The objective of the event was to fuel digital innovations with practical solutions -- not just tech for tech's sake.

Verisurf Software was one of 42 teams to participate in Sandvik's AI Hackathon.
One of the teams, Verisurf Software, entered an Excel AI Assistant to demonstrate the concept of a fully featured Verisurf Co-Pilot that you could ask any Verisurf-related question, regardless of technical level. Once developed, the project's focus was to create a fully agentic assistant to help create or modify custom Verisurf Excel Templates.
"Participation in the Sandvik Hackathon was an outstanding achievement and a reflection of the innovation, teamwork, and forward thinking happening within Verisurf. This recognition puts a spotlight on the exciting progress we're making in AI and the direction we're heading as part of Sandvik's growing focus on intelligent manufacturing," said Sean Leonard, project leader.
"This hackathon will help us accelerate innovation and stay close to what truly matters: our customers. By investing in new ideas, we're shaping the future of manufacturing, together," said Magnus Malmström, Chief Technology Officer for Intelligent Manufacturing at Sandvik.
"By bringing together our experts from CAD, CAM, simulation, and metrology, we leverage the breadth of Sandvik's digital manufacturing portfolio. This collaborative approach means hackathon solutions can seamlessly bridge different parts of the manufacturing process -- a benefit only a company with Sandvik's end-to-end offering can deliver," added Malmström.
