3D-Lasered Chip Forming Technology Produces Sharper, More Precise, Longer-Lasting Tools

With its 3D-lasered chip forming geometries, SIMTEK's new chip control technology not only increases process reliability but also extends the service life of the tools.

Lasered chip shape geometries optimize chip control and chip breaking, especially in demanding applications such as complex geometries, varying machining directions and large form depths.

"The introduction of laser geometries marks a huge advance in tool technology. Thanks to them, our tools are not only sharper and more precise, but also able to reliably meet the requirements for chip control," explains Board Member Norbert Seifermann.

According to SIMTEK, the 3D-lasered tools are ideal for applications in the automotive industry, medical technology and other sectors with high demands on precision and process stability. The number of customers using SIMTEK cutting tools with 3D laser geometries has increased more than tenfold since 2019.

The simmill 9W tool family combines the precision and stability of monoblock molds with the flexibility and cost-effectiveness of modular systems. The system is particularly suitable for applications such as slotting, separating and slot milling -- for example in the automotive industry, in mechanical engineering and for demanding precision applications.

"With the simmill 9W series, we are closing the gap between classic modular interchangeable tools and monoblock solutions," explains Seifermann.

The lasered chip geometry produces chips that can be deflected out of the machining zone in a controlled manner when the cutting values are the same.

Thanks to an innovative gearing technology, the system ensures maximum stability and precision -- even at milling depths of up to 16.5 mm in the standard range, which is far beyond the capabilities of many other comparable tool solutions.

With standard cutting widths from 0.5 mm to 6.0 mm and an integrated coolant supply, the series scores highly in terms of both efficiency and sustainability. In the individual area, the possible applications in terms of diameter, width and depth are even greater.
