It's been 20 years since the manufacturing technology industry came together to produce a student event at IMTS. Back then, as in now, IMTS was an opportunity to introduce aspiring engineers and builders to manufacturing, and a great way to attract young talent. Unfortunately, the skilled workers shortage that was spreading through the industry back then is a problem that still persists today.
To continue the battle to alleviate this shortage, the IMTS 2016 Student Summit will be hosting representatives from a number of technical, community, and four-year colleges. This is a great place to get an understanding of the education and training needed for an advanced manufacturing career.
New at this year's summit is the Smartforce Career Launch Pad, a career fair that will allow students to connect with employers for apprenticeships, internships, and entry-level jobs. Students who are registered for the Smartforce Student Summit can register for the career fair by uploading their resume to MTCareers.org, an online matchmaking tool for jobs that will be posted during IMTS. Students can upload their resumes for free; there is a nominal fee for companies to post job listings.
