Enhancements Reduce Set-Up Time and Expand Versatility of Dual Collet Chuck Line and Gear Hobber System

As an enhancement to its Dual Collet Chuck line, EXSYS Tool, Inc. has expanded the applicability of the chucks to now cover all of the industry's major brands of CNC turning machines.

With the expansion, the line moves toward becoming a standard product, which will allow more shops to benefit from the product's ability to maximize tool turret capacity. The chucks double the capacity of individual turret positions to not only increase a machine's tool storage capacity, but most importantly to expand its tooling versatility for different workpieces and help reduce job set up times.

EXSYS recently enhanced its special EXSYS/EPPINGER compact gear hobber system with arbor interchangeability. Shops can now quickly and easily interchange the system's arbor for holding various sizes of slotting saws as well as gear hobbers. Arbor diameters are available for all standard sizes of slotting saws and gear hobs. Tool changes take just seconds by removing the yoke plate and sliding out the arbor. The base of the tool holder remains in its station.

Built for heavy machining loads, the gear-driven gear hobbing system has been designed for 45 Nm of torque and speeds of up to 3,000 rpm for hobs or slotting saws up to 2.480" in diameter.

When used as a gear hobber, the system allows shops to generate splines, spur or helical gears in one operation. The adjustable tool holding system, designed for horizontal turning centers, eliminates having to rough gears on one machine, then transfer them to another for gear hobbing.

Having a compact design, the system, in most instances, operates without interrupting its neighboring tool stations in a machine turret. Other comparable systems often require the room of two tool positions.
